Keolis MHI pilots TRES with FMT to advance Dubai Metro’s Digital Strategy

In line with Dubai Metro’s Digital Strategy, Keolis MHI engaged FMT to conduct a pilot program for TRES (Train Examination System), a cutting-edge solution in autonomous rollingstock inspection.

What is TRES?

TRES is an autonomous inspection robot designed specifically for rollingstock assets. Equipped with FMT’s advanced sensor kits, it uses the latest in LiDAR, laser, and optical technologies to assess component condition and identify defects. Unlike traditional systems, TRES is fully autonomous and does not require civil works or modifications to existing Maintenance Facilities.

Through highly configurable inspections, TRES can automate up to 70% of underframe inspections, delivering detailed and accurate 3D models of train components. These models enable a wide range of critical measurements that enhance maintenance quality and reliability.

Successful Pilot Completion

The pilot program was successfully completed in May 2023, validating TRES’s capability to perform essential inspections, including:

Wheel profile measurements
Brake block measurements
Gearbox oil level
Bolt torque marks
Collector shoe measurements (height and thickness)
